Happy 4th of July, Scooter!

When I was growing up we used to celebrate the 4th as the birthday of our democracy. The day we declared independance from a king who ruled his people unfairly and who was above the rule of law.

The day we declared ourselves a nation of laws and not of men.

And this 4th of July, distracted by the pretty bursts of firecrackers, how many will notice or even care that Scooter Libby had his sentence commuted and that Bush is considering a full pardon for him?

Don't forget, that this is the President who campaigned on bringing dignity and honor back to the White House. Who professed to love the law and who swore not only to defend the Constitution against all enemies both foreign and domestic but to actually follow the rules laid out in that sacred document.

Don't forget that this president was asked by the Pope to confer life imprisonment on a converted Christian murderer who had repented her sin, and felt remorse for her crime...but the then Governor of Texas felt the law was the law and he had a sworn duty to uphold it...the just sentence of death had to be carried out.

I ask you, if Paris Hilton had to go back to jail, why shouldn't Scooter Libby? Scooter Libby, whose crime was to obstruct the investigation into the crime of outing an active CIA covert operative engaged in gathering intelligence on Weapons of Mass Destruction during a time of war. A man who has never exhibited the slightest remorse for this crime, nor repented of his efforts to subvert the very democratic processes his President has sworn to uphold.

They are all criminals.
They are all thugs.
They are contemptuous of everything real American Democracy is supposed to represent.

They need to be removed from office.
They need to be held accountable for their crimes.
They need to be punished.

If they are not, there is no longer an America to defend.

Can you Freaking Believe This?

The next Ditto Head who mentions Mark Rich to me is going to get a mouth full of fist, and consider that public notice.

Olberman said it better than I.

I believe Dittohead is for the ones so upset about this Libby thing. If outing a so called "covert" agent is such a crime why is the leaker still free? I'll tell you why, because there was no crime because Plame was not a covert agent which people just keep choosing to ignore.
Paris Hilton? What about Sandy Burglar? Where was the overzealous prosecutor in this case?
Fitzgerald should be Nifonged.
By the way my man Libby has nothing to do with 4th of July.
Nice to see you still spewing Archie.
Yes nobody cares about Libby because most of America doesn't want to waste their time on stuff that has no relevance and is clearly about nothing more than to bring down the president.
Just so you know I was also against the Clinton impeachment. We are the laughing stock thanks to partisan politcs.

Could it possibly be that the "leaker" is still free because justice was obstructed?

Regardless of why he's still free, why wasn't he fired by Georgie, like Georgie promised?

The bottom line is that George thinks perjury and obstruction of justice don't merit punishment, and no matter what you think about any previous president you don't think is on your team, that ought to scare the bejeezus out of you.

As for still spewing...I'm nearly overcome with outrage fatigue. Kerry was right, this is the biggest bunch of lying crooks the political world has ever known.

Hi Archie,
Yes the Bush Admin is the biigest bunch of crooks and liars.

Now Bill and Hillary claim that his highly controversial pardons were "different" than the Libby clemency.

He's absolutely right . . .

The big difference was that many of the Clinton pardons were patently bought and paid for — something event the Clintons don't claim to be the case in the Libby commutation.

Hillary's brothers were paid more than $500,000 to lobby the president for pardons that were then granted to con artists and drug dealers. For a fee of $400,000, Hugh Rodham successfully pushed for a pardon for drug kingpin Carlos Anabel Vignali, convicted of shipping a half-ton of cocaine from L.A. to Minnesota.

His father was a big contributor to the Democratic Party: He gave more than $150,000 to the Los Angeles Democrats. Obviously, the investment was a shrewd one.

That's cronyism, Hillary. Get it?

Tony Rodham advocated a pardon for Edgar and Vanna Jo Gregory. The Gregorys, who owned a carnival company, defrauded a federal bank. When the pardon was publicized, Hillary stated that Tony was "not paid" by the Gregorys for his work on the pardon. Tony repeated that line on the "Larry King" show.

After an investigation, the House Government Operations Committee disagreed and announced that Hillary's statement was inaccurate. Now, a federal bankruptcy court overseeing the carnival company's bankruptcy is about to rule on whether over $100,000 paid to Tony Rodham at the time of the pardons was a loan or payment for "consulting."

The Gregorys contributed over $100,000 to Hillary's campaign and other Democratic causes. These folks were well known to the Clintons. They visited them at Camp David and were hired to stage two carnivals on the White House grounds — paid for by the taxpayers.

That's cronyism, Hillary.

God, just once I wish that these people would pay a tiny bit of lip service to the "new era of personal accountability" they campaigned on and that their supporters would follow suit.

How many years have to move on before something, anything illegal this administration does isn't excused by "Clinton did worse"?

I'm not even going...as Tony Snow so often says...play your game. It is stupid to constantly try to avoid holding this president to account for his willful disregard of laws and his duty to uphold the Constitution by baiting the people who are paying attention into defending the Clintons.

And yes, in case you weren't paying attention, I just called you stupid.

Normally I don't like it when discussion gets to this level, but clearly it is the only level you are capable of comprehending. Because you are stupid.

If you are not stupid, kindly address the issue I have raised, which is how do you feel about THIS president feeling that he is above the law, lying to you, and subverting the very freedoms and Constitutional principles he is sworn to defend? How do you feel that THIS president has essentially stated with the power of law that perjury and obstruction of justice are crimes which do not deserve to be punished by jail time? How do you feel about the impact that will have on future opportunities by this and FUTURE presidents to abuse their power and further erode the very things which make this country great? How do ya feel? I guess you feel like a WINNER so long as its YOUR guy doing it.

I know, I know...Bill Clinton sux.

Sigh.

Outrage fatigue is only surpassed by moron fatigue.

I won't go into the whole Clinton thing but what I will say is that the only reason Bush gets called on everything is for the democrats sheer hatred of him. Things that he's done are nothing more than being able to use presidential power which is not illegal and not much different then "previous" presidents have done. Maybe when he does do something illegal and actually breaks the law then we will see if there is sufficient evidence to actualluy do something about it. Until then just like they said about Sandy Berger "He was punished for what he did". Yeah a slap on the face and a 50,000 fine whoopeee!

Oh and 2nd if Hillary didn't go around spouting off her big trap,oh I hate that she's my senator,no one would have to be defending anything. The ems have nothing better to do because they hate that Bush has more power then them so they make all this political hay all in the hopes of finding something wrong.

I am constatly staggered by the sheer monumental hard headed stupidity of the Dittohead who can not for a moment conceive that it might be possible for a rational person to hate what Bush is doing instead of hating the man himself.

"You're just a Bush hater, you don't really mind that he is the closest thing to a dictator that this nation has ever had for a president. You don't really hate that his absurd claims of executive privilege are destroying the notion of co-equal branches of government. You don't really hate that his signing statements are a tacit declaration that he is above the law...you just hate him. And freedom. And America. Why don't you marry Clinton if you love him so much? Bush hater."

God, it makes me want to bash out my brains...THIS PRESIDENT...the conversation is about THIS PRESIDENT...not because I hate him, not because you should hate him, but because he's doing things that are WRONG. Can you please try to stay on TOPIC??????

And, I hate to have to keep saying this, but one of the reasons why OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE and PERJURY are such serious FELONIES is because they impede the prosecutors ability to prove criminal activity by others.

And as has been said before, if the guy who claimed he would usher in a new era of personal accountability doesn't have anything to hide, then why is he hiding EVERYTHING, exercisign the most absurdly far reaching claims of Executive Priviledge in history, putting what amounts to gag orders on those who have been subpoenaed and his counsel telling Harriet Myers not to even show up before Congress today???

These are abuses of power.

Convince me they are not without using the name Clinton to frame your argument. Focus, people.

(oh, and did you notice I didn't say anything about hating Bush? Or you, for that matter.)

If you want to go over everything this president or any other politician for that matter with a fine tooth comb well there may things you don't like about him.The belief I have is not so much as not liking things he does but making it everyone's #1 agenda. I just find it wrong to do at such a delicate time.
I just wish this congress could find something more constructive to do with their time. And I truly believe Libby was railroaded.
Oh so he couldn't remember exactly what was said in a conversation 3 years prior.
You people crack me up with this trampeling of the constittuion thing too. You guys complain about wire tapping and following bank transactions and in the same breath complain Al-Queda is still strong. Which one is it? You can't have both.
I guess playing the saxaphone in the Whitehouse for 8 years didn't prove to be much help either did it?

Let's try to keep it simple enough for your limited brain power to deal with.

Do you or do you not care if this president considers perjury and obstruction of justice to be felonies which do not merit punishment?

Just a yes or no.

In this instance my answer is no because like I said Libby was railroaded as most of us actually do realize.

And there we have it, ladies and gentlemen.

Democrat committing perjury=impeachable offense

Republican committing perjury=not worthy of punishment even if convicted

Democracy in action, and certainly worth dying to protect if you're a soldier in the US military
